Poem: Heads You Win, Tails I Lose

It’s lurking in your smile,
The decision you want me to make
And I can’t do this anymore:
Dance on the edge of your blade

So I’m begging you, please—
Please don’t make me choose
What makes it hard for you to see
That either way, I lose?

Because the choice you ask of me
Comes with much too high a price;
For every possible decision
Will cost a piece of my life

So stop asking for a sacrifice—
It’s horrendously unfair;
But even knowing what it costs me,
Your eyes say you don’t care.

I think this goes without saying, but as we live in a world of rampant asshattery, please allow me to state for the record: this is my intellectual property.
