Poem: Light

I’ve never denied that there is darkness in me,
But it’s time to stop wallowing;
Time to crawl to the window and fumble it open,
To let the light shine in;
To sift through all that has accumulated in every dark corner,
To try and find the magic, that mesmerizing intangible something they all say I have,
To stop hiding in dark rooms, afraid and angry and hating myself,
To stop making myself bleed in a ruthless drive for perfection.
Because while darkness has its place and purpose,
It’s well-past time to let some light in.
